During the summer of 2026, Yonas traveled to the Philippines with his family. Seeing the everyday barriers that can make education difficult — supplies, uniforms, shoes, transportation, school activities, and projects — made the need feel personal.
While visiting Bohol, the family met a local guide named Silo. His story and generosity helped inspire the idea that eventually became Y Philippine Education Project.

Y Philippine Education Project is an active California nonprofit public benefit corporation and has submitted its application to the IRS for recognition under section 501(c)(3). IRS determination is pending.
